ABOUT THIS SITE

The Page's Webmaster

My name is Linda Rodgers and I'm the Webmaster of this site. I am a stay at home Mom with one biological daughter and three adopted children.

I am a Veteran with Military Service as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. My most recent job was a Pharmacy Technician but due to my health I had to resign from that position.

I am actively researching my family lineage.

The Ancestor List

Are we related? Is your great-grandfather our mother's cousin's grandma's nephew once removed? There's only one way to find out . . . .

I am researching these surnames:

BERRYMAN
COCHRAN
FARRELL
MCGUIRE
O'MALEY
MORAN
NESBITT
SMITH
VANDEUSEN

About the Family Roots

The maternal side of my family:

James McGuire and Bridget Moran both born in County Mayo, Ireland and married in Liverpool, England. They arrived in America 1853. They lived for sometime in Pendleton County, Kentucky and moved in a few years to Knox County, Indiana then to Daviess County, Indiana. They raised ten children. James is buried in Washington, Indiana. Bridget died in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio but is buried with James. James had a sister Sarah McGuire. I will write more about her.

Patrick Farrell and Margaret Lannan both born in County Wexford, Ireland immigrating in 1851. They raised their eight children in Barr Township, Daviess County, Indiana. Their son Robert William Farrell married Ellen Theresa McGuire (daughter of James and Bridget McGuire)in Wheatland, Knox County, Indiana at the McGuire home. Robert and Ellen raised eleven children. Ellen Theresa died in Akron, Summit County, Ohio and is buried in Vincennes with her husband in the Farrell Family Plot.

A daughter of Robert Farrell and Ellen Theresa McGuire was Gertude Cecelia Farrell, my grandmother, married Charles Smith son of Sebastian Smith and Lauretta Candice Scott. Charles Smith and Gertrude Farrell were married at the Old Cathedral in Vincennes, Knox County, Indiana January 22, 1902. This family eventually ends up in Akron, Ohio.

Sarah McGuire, James McGuire's sister, married James O'Maley. Their child was Charles O'Maley. James died and Sarah married a man by the name of William Derrig. Sarah lived in and around Bramble and Loogootee, Indiana and visited often with her brother James.

The fraternal side of my family:

John Cochran married Willie Ann Berryman in Alabama. John and Willie had three girls, Clyde, Bertie and Rosie. Willie died attempting to give birth to another baby. John Cochran took over the raising of his remaining three young daughters in Moontown, Alabama in 1901. John never married after the death of Willie.

Clyde Cochran married Frederick James Nesbitt. Fred was the ninth child of fourteen children. Fred's parents were Jesse Kirk Nesbitt and Margaret Blankenship. Fred grew up in Tuscumbia, Alabama. He was a cotton farmer and later owned a cab in the nearby city of Sheffield, Alabama.

Fred and Clyde had four children, Fred Jr., Lucille, and twins Jim and Gene. When the twins were two months old Fred and Clyde pakced up their belongings in Alabama and moved to the Rubber Capital of the World, Akron, Ohio to find needed work in the tire factories.
